How do I book?

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, etc.), and other major payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay, all processed through our secure, encrypted system. No cash or checks—just fast, safe options to get you on the road with Ryde ATX.

What is your security deposit policy?

A standard $250 deposit will be requested prior to confirming your rental and will be charged on your credit/debit card until the return of the rental vehicle. The deposit will be refunded after the return of the rental vehicle, less any incidental charges incurred (gas, additional miles, tolls, unpaid citations, insurance deductible, rental extensions, or all other applicable fees per the accepted terms of the rental agreement).

Can I add an additional driver to my rental?

Yes, you can add an additional driver who is not listed on your personal auto insurance policy, such as a friend instead of a spouse or family member. This allows them to drive the rental vehicle with full coverage for $25/day. The additional driver must meet the same rental requirements as the primary driver. They must either be on the same insurance policy as the primary driver or purchase our additional coverage if they only have liability insurance. All drivers, including the primary and any additional drivers, are required to have at least liability insurance and will need to purchase our additional insurance to ensure full coverage during the rental period.

Are there any hidden fees?

We believe in transparent pricing with no unnecessary charges. Our fees are straightforward and essential for compliance and quality service. Here’s the breakdown:

Sales Tax (8.25%): A mandatory Austin, Texas tax added to your total.

Vehicle License Fee (VLF) Tax (10%): Covers vehicle registration and licensing costs.

Processing Fee (3.5%): Supports booking, billing, and vehicle maintenance.

Mandatory Deposit ($250): A refundable $250 deposit is required for all rentals to secure your booking and cover any potential incidentals. This is returned to you after the rental, provided there are no damages or violations.

Insurance Requirements: We require all drivers to be fully covered with their own insurance. If you only have liability coverage, you’ll need to purchase our additional insurance to protect the rental vehicle—see our "Insurance and Protection" section for details and options.

Insurance and Protection

Do I need my own insurance to rent?

We believe in transparent pricing with no unnecessary charges. Our fees are straightforward. Yes, all renters must have an active auto insurance policy with at least minimum liability coverage. If you don’t have full coverage, we offer two optional add-ons to protect the rental vehicle in a collision:

Collision Damage Protection - Basic ($30/day): Covers up to $20,000 in collision damages with a $500 deductible. It’s wallet-friendly, acts as primary coverage for the rental, and lets you drive with confidence.

Collision Damage Protection - Plus ($45/day): Covers up to $35,000 in collision damages with a $250 deductible. It offers max coverage, a low upfront cost, and protects the rental first—perfect for bigger rides or bold trips.

Our insurance is secondary to your personal policy. In some instances, you may be required to purchase third-party insurance.

Does Rental Car Damage Protection cover other vehicles?

No, it only covers damage to the rental vehicle itself. For example, if you’re in a collision, our Collision Damage Protection - Basic ($30/day) or Plus ($45/day) will handle repairs to the Ryde ATX vehicle you’re driving, up to $20,000 or $35,000 respectively, after you pay the deductible ($500 for Basic, $250 for Plus). However, it doesn’t cover damage to other vehicles, property (like a fence or building), or injuries to other people. That’s where your personal liability insurance comes in—it’s required to cover those external damages or liabilities if you’re at fault. Think of our protection as safeguarding the rental, while your own policy takes care of everything else outside the rental vehicle. If you don’t have liability coverage, you’d be responsible for those costs out of pocket, so make sure your auto insurance is active and meets at least the minimum requirements.

Do I still need personal insurance with Rental Car Damage Protection?

No, our add-on isn’t a replacement for insurance—it’s extra protection for the rental vehicle. You’re still required to have an active auto insurance policy with at least minimum liability coverage, as mandated by Texas law, to cover damages or injuries you might cause to others. Our Collision Damage Protection (Basic or Plus) only covers collision damages to the rental itself and doesn’t fulfill that liability requirement.

What if my insurance deductible is over $2,500?

If your personal insurance deductible is over $2,500, you’ll need to grab one of our Rental Car Collision Damage Protection add-ons. This ensures the rental vehicle is covered for collision damages without you facing a huge out-of-pocket cost. Choose Basic ($30/day, $500 deductible, up to $20,000 coverage) or Plus ($45/day, $250 deductible, up to $35,000 coverage) to keep it affordable and stress-free.

Rental Policies

What’s the minimum booking age?

You must be at least 21 years old to rent with Ryde ATX and have at least minimum liability insurance. This ensures drivers are experienced, responsible, and legally covered to hit Austin’s roads. Valid ID and an active driver’s license are required at pickup—no exceptions.

What are your rental requirements?

To rent with Ryde ATX, you’ll need:

Valid Driver’s License: Must be current and issued by your state or country—no temps or expired IDs.

Minimum Age of 21: You’ve got to be 21 or older to hit the road with us.

Active Liability Insurance: Bring proof of at least minimum liability coverage (required by Texas law) to cover damages or injuries you might cause others.

Credit or Debit Card for Payment: We accept major cards to secure your rental and handle charges—no cash or checks.

How many miles are included?

Each rental includes 150 miles per day for free—great for exploring Austin and nearby spots. Extra miles cost $0.60 each. So, if you drive 180 miles in a day, you’d pay $18 for the 30 miles over. We check the odometer at pickup and drop-off to keep it simple. Drive as much as you like, just pay for the extra!

Do you allow out-of-country rentals?

No, rentals must stay within the United States. This keeps our vehicles covered by insurance and ensures we can assist you if needed. Crossing borders—like into Mexico or Canada—voids protection and isn’t allowed under our terms.

Do you offer one-way rentals?

No, all vehicles must be returned to the original pick-up location. We don’t offer one-way rentals or drop-offs at other spots—it keeps our process simple and ensures your rental stays on track with Ryde ATX.

What happens if I miss my reservation?

If you don’t arrive within 30 minutes of your reserved time, we may cancel your booking and keep the payment—no refund. We hold your car for you, so if you’re late without telling us, we might give it to someone else. Traffic happens, we get it—just call or text if you’re delayed, and we’ll try to work with you. To avoid this, show up on time or let us know ASAP!

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancel your Ryde ATX reservation more than 72 hours before your scheduled pick-up or delivery time, and you won’t pay a dime—no fees, no hassle. If you cancel within 72 hours, there’s a 25% penalty based on your total reservation cost (rental rate plus any add-ons). For example, a $200 booking would mean a $50 charge. This helps us manage last-minute changes while keeping your plans flexible—just give us a heads-up early to avoid the fee!

Vehicle Pickup and Return

Where do I pick up and drop off my car?

Choose from two locations when you book:

Ryde ATX Headquarters: Located 20 minutes southwest of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, this is our main spot—pickup is free, no extra charge. Perfect if you’re nearby or want to save a few bucks.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: Right at the terminal for ultimate convenience, this option has a $75 fee to cover airport logistics. Ideal if you’re flying in and need your ride ready the moment you land.

Pick what works best—free at HQ or $75 at the airport.

Do you offer custom pick-up/drop-off locations?

Not currently—we don’t offer additional pickup or drop-off spots beyond our two standard locations. However, these spots are conveniently placed to give you flexibility, making it easy to start and end your Ryde ATX journey from either one.

What’s your refueling/recharging policy?

Vehicles must be returned with the same fuel or charge level they had at pickup—full gas tanks for cars, full batteries for EVs. If you bring it back lower, we’ll charge a fee double the local gas or electricity rate to cover the difference (e.g., $20 in fuel could mean a $40 fee). Want to skip the hassle? Our Quick Refuel & Recharge Return add-on is a flat $60 fee—pay upfront, return it at any level, and we’ll handle the rest. Saves time and keeps your trip stress-free.=

Can I pick up or drop off outside business hours?

Yes, we offer after-hours service! Our standard hours are Monday–Sunday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. You can choose an after-hours drop-off anytime outside those hours, but the rental isn’t officially completed until a team member checks it out the next morning. If there’s a delay or damage found, you may be charged an extra half-day rate.

Can I return the car early?

Yes, you can return your rental early, but the rental fees are set based on the original agreement you signed at booking. We don’t prorate or refund for unused days, so if you rent for a week and return after three days, you’ll still pay the full agreed amount. Plan your rental period carefully to get the most value!
